Can The Essay Still Surprise Us?
Can The Essay Still Surprise Us? The level is, as an educator, one must be very cautious about levying the accusation with out hard proof. There are an excellent many instructional contexts in which that is difficult if not unimaginable. Ghostwriting places the onus on the educator to have initial cause for suspicion. Consequently, the growth of this industry helped to provoke the expansion of the plagiarism-detection business of which Turnitin is a leading example. International college students typically arrive at American universities without a background or meaningful help in English composition. According to a 2003 examine, these college students lack the abilities for paraphrasing and inferential use of sources possessed by their English-talking counterparts. Instead of the as soon as-and-carried out security of getting away with a single ghostwritten project, each scholar knows that his or her work might be held as much as sustained and ongoing scrutiny. For assignments of higher depth, a balance between in-class and out-of-class draft-writing provides a measure of oversight whilst the scholar pursues an assignment independently. Ghostwriters rely on supplies which might be available online and like the efficiency of assignments that can be summoned from memory and expertise. Most ghostwriters don't have any downside with somewhat creative writing but, once more, this method offers an educator the chance to spot a mismatch between a pupil and the written work. This is also a possibility to problem college students to craft distinctive arguments based mostly on track content material. However, using the multi-draft process can stretch an assignment out across weeks or months. This leads to a higher length of exposure for the cheating student. The caveat with this strategy is that there may be nothing stopping the scholar from outsourcing every draft of the assignment. There are far-reaching educational issues implicated by the viability of the ghostwriting industry. To reiterate the challenges facing students with studying or language deficiencies, policing alone doesn't get to the foundation of the problem. Some very actual structural, practical flaws in our instructional system are reflected in these demographics and in students' decisions to cheat. Plagiarism detection software program or perhaps a quick Google search can confirm suspicion of a reduce-and-paste job and yield incontrovertible proof. For occasion, ABC Papers, Amazing Papers, BookReportsRUs, Paper Campus, PaperResearch, and Paper Tutors all fall underneath the Paper Experts Inc. umbrella. CCU lists as many as 23 services affiliated with Paper Experts, although many seem like defunct now. From this latter fact, we are able to also deduce that the shelf life varies significantly from ghostwriting service to the subsequent. Many of these college students will surmise, perhaps correctly, that they stand a far larger chance of getting away with dishonest than mastering a new language. This is the measure used most incessantly to define an project's price. Papers due in per week or more are typically bound to the low finish of the pricing spectrum. For anything due in less than a week, the price per web page will go up because the number of days goes down. A paper due in lower than 24 hours will fall on the highest finish of the price-per-page spectrum. Part of the dialogue of detection and deterrence must logically revolve round discovering methods of accumulating concrete proof primarily based on suspicion. Cheating is, in fact, a serious allegation and students have so much riding on the completion of their education. So obviously, the average student will go to great lengths to deny any such allegations. Students usually are not afraid to get litigious if need be. Admittedly though, this inference probably does not differentiate a ghostwriting startup firm from any other internet-based mostly business. But I worked immediately with college students over the course of entire semesters to develop theses, reply to mentor suggestions, make revisions, and ultimately produce ultimate dissertations. I can confirm that this happens every day and that it's simpler to get away with than one may think. This identical objective drives the current article, which supplies an intensive state-of-the-art account of how ghostwritten papers may be detected and deterred. I provide this account as a useful resource to educators, administrators and faculties who wish to higher understand and more ably fight ghostwriting in their classrooms. Theyâll take your composition and consider it via all the measures required in the real world. Students know when a professor is disengaged from the subject, the class, or the final occupation of educating our youth. Deterrence refers to ways of diminishing the inclination, motive, or want to purchase a ghostwritten paper. A 2011 Research in Higher Education study, seeking to know the motives behind scholar cheating, finds that dishonest is often rational in nature. Instructors can cut back the convenience with which an outsider can replicate old assignments by updating course supplies and creating new assignments on an annual basis.

How A Deloitte Intern Spends Her Week
How A Deloitte Intern Spends Her Week by: Naomi Nishihara on July 18, 2014 | 1 Comment Comments 17,818 Views July 18, 2014Janet Leung is a summer intern at DeloitteEvery Monday morning, Janet Leung, a rising senior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, leaves home at 4:45 a.m. to catch a 6:30 flight. She is a business administration major, concentrating in management, and this summer she is a consulting intern at Deloitte.Itââ¬â¢s Leungââ¬â¢s second summer at Deloitte, actually. Last year she had a local project and would drive to her clientââ¬â¢s site about 45 minutes away from home. This year, based in Deloittes San Francisco office, she has a client 40 minutes north of Seattle, and so travels there before work Monday and flies home Thursday afternoon. Its a rather typical consulting grind.For most of the week, she lives in a hotel, but returns to San Francisco for the traditional Friday intern-activities. She says she enjoys it, and though her particular interest in consultin g was sparked by à the Deloitte recruiters who visited her college, à she à has been interested in business since high school.ââ¬Å"In high school I did a lot of extracurricular activities, like soccer and speech and debate, and we would have fundraisers all the time, selling $1 snacks and whatnot. The base cost was 30 cents, and you could make a 70 cent profit for each snack, so after those fundraisers I would keep selling my own snacks. Ever since then Iââ¬â¢ve been very into business,â⬠Leung said.Monday Thursday at the Clientââ¬â¢s SiteThese days, her business skills are used on a bigger scale, and her week begins with the early morning Monday flight to Seattle. She then drives to her clientââ¬â¢s site and gets started. The work, she says, involves both assisting her manager and also working on her own projects.ââ¬Å"Last year there was only actually one person on my project, and she was my manager, so we were kind of attached at the hip,â⬠Leung says . ââ¬Å"I would go to every meeting with her, taking notes and things like that. But there were other things too ââ¬â she gave me my own personal project, which I really enjoyed. I got to interview a lot of clients one-on-one, and I felt really good about the fact that she trusted me with that.â⬠This year, Leungââ¬â¢s manager has given her a project to work on by herself, though if she needs help sheââ¬â¢s welcome to ask. On a day-to-day basis, she works mainly with mentors and clients consulting in business technology, and though she said that her business degree at Cal Poly doesnââ¬â¢t directly relate to her work, she thinks that the most important things sheââ¬â¢s learning are how to be a true professional and how to build new relationships. As for new material, the Deloitte Learning Center and DeloitteNet are resources she can use to look up specific information and do research. ââ¬Å"So DeloitteNet has become one of my best friends,â⬠she says. â⬠Å"It keeps me on top of my stuff.â⬠Typically, she is at her desk until 5:30 or 6 p.m., at which point she checks into her hotel for the evening. The next two days of each week are typical eight-to-five work days, but because sheââ¬â¢s travelling, Leung says that Deloitte provides two additional stipends one for food and one for fitness. Because of this, she eats out with her colleagues and attends barre classes with another intern, keeping the Seattle portion of her week entertaining until she flies home Thursday afternoon. Essay on Hinduism and Marriage - 777 Words
Hinduism and Marriage In a hindu marriage the words and action means more than just words. It is a guide for the rest of the life. -------------------------------------------------------------------- According to Hinduism, a marriage between two persons is a sacred relationship that is not limited to this life alone. It extends across seven or more lives, during which the couple help each other progress spiritually. The adage that marriages are made in heaven is very much true in case of Hinduism. Two souls come together and marry because their karmas are intertwined and they have to resolve many things together upon earth in order to ensure their mutual salvation. These problems are more acute in the rural areas compared to the urban areas and metropolitan cities. Much depends upon the family background. If parents are educated and enlightened on both sides, things would be easier for the children, who get involved in unconventional relationships. One of the evils of Hindu marriages is the ubiquitous dowry system. The amount of dowry can be a very substantial amount, even in dollar terms, depending upon the financial status of the parties involved. Sometimes greedy mother-in-laws and husbands subject the poor brides to innumerable hardships for not meeting their expectations in respect of the dowry. Cases of bride burning are not unknown. Indian penal code prescribes severe punishment for such acts. But the cases take years and decades before the courts deliver justice. In arranged marriages the marriage is consummated through elaborate ceremonies presided over by a Vedic priest well versed in Vedic mantras. The marriage date is fixed after consulting the astrological charts and then invitations are sent. Before the marriage date, both the parties spend a lot of time in preparation and exchange of gifts. The Sun and Moon free essay sample
The solar system is one of the very first things that a child will learn about in school. Children will learn why there is night and day, why there are seasons, the different shapes of the moon, and all of that important stuff that is too easily forgotten, as time progresses. But whether one retains the basic knowledge of Earthââ¬â¢s sun and moon or not, the facts (similarities and differences) of these two celestial objects, are still very important. Without these facts, science would not be the same, nor would it have nearly the same amount of innumerable breakthroughs that it has today. To fully understand the similarities of Earthââ¬â¢s sun and moon, one must first be aware of their differences. It is easiest to start with the basics and then build on those basic facts with more details, just how one learned back in elementary, middle and high school. We will write a custom essay sample on The Sun and Moon or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The sun can basically be described as a yellow, dwarf star and has more mass than all of the planets, asteroids, and moons in the solar system (the Milky Way) combined. The sun is so big, in fact, that it would take about 333,000 Earths to equal the mass of the sun. While, moon on the other hand, is smaller than the Earth and is thought to be a large mass of dense material (Furto, 2013). After scientists performed a couple of bombings on the moon, the scientists found that the moon rings, almost like a bell, which has caused some people to speculate that the interior of the moon is hollow and metallic (Recomparison). This is also another way that the sun and moon differ, since it is common knowledge that the sun is, basically, a big ball of hot, glowing gases, and not a, potentially, hollow mass of ringing material. Yet another difference between the sun and the moon is that the moon revolves around the sun, while the sun basically remains stationary. Also the differentiation of size between the sun and moon is yet another major difference between these two orbs. The sun, on one hand, is a huge star that is about 865,000 miles in diameter, while the moon, is a ball of only a mere 2,200 miles in diameter. This is such a huge size difference that about 76 million moons could actually fit into the sun with a little bit of room to spare. Once again, the sun is much larger and has a tremendous amount of mass. The mass of the sun is about 27 million times more than the mass of the moon. This is fact also helps to explain one of the other differences between the sun and the moon, their gravitational pull (Cain, 2008). While it could be considered a similarity that they both provide the Earth with gravity, it shall be considered a difference for the moment, because the sun has a greater force of gravity than the moon, due to the size difference. Itââ¬â¢s this gravitational interaction that gives the Earth its orbit around the sun, and the tiny pull of the moon just causes the Earth to wobble a bit in its movements. When the sun and the moon are pulling on the Earth from the same direction, their gravity adds up, and we get the largest spring tides, and then, when theyââ¬â¢re on opposite sides of the Earth, their forces cancel out somewhat (Cain, 2008). As mentioned above, the Earth experiences two high tides per day because of the difference in the moons gravitational field at the Earths surface and at its center. One could say that there is a high tide on the side nearest and the opposite sides of the moon, because the moon pulls the water away from the Earth. And even though the sun is 391 times as far away from the Earth as the moon, its force on the Earth is about 175 times as large. Yet, its tidal effect is smaller than that of the moon because tides are caused by the difference in gravity field across the Earth (Georgia State University). Another difference between the sun and the moon is the amount of light each one gives off, as well as how strong the light is. On one hand, you have the sun, without which life could not exist in this solar system. The sun provides Earth with light during the day and the moon however, seems to be the light at night. Which is actually a false assumption. The moon actually distributes no light whatsoever, it merely reflects the light of the sun (Recomparison). It is more like a mirage or a mirror, because it is just reflecting the light from the sun, not actually producing much light, if any, of its own. Now that some of the main differences have been explained, it is time to explain some of the similarities between the sun and the moon. Besides the obvious similarities of them both being celestial orbs floating around in space, and that they are specific to Earthââ¬â¢s solar system, there are two main similarities between the sun and moon. One very big similarity is the vast amount of information that is not known about the two, and the ââ¬Å"strangenessâ⬠that scientists have observed about them. For instance, in January of 2010, the Internet began buzzing about SOHO (The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory spacecraft) images which seem to show large spherical, reflective objects in the corona of the sun (Recomparison). Scientists are also pondering the reason that light seems to peak through cracks on the lunar surface. The suns composition is also in question by a few scientists, but not all can agree on what the sun is or isnt, the same goes for the moon. Some scientists are also puzzled as to why the sun and the moon are so large in comparison to the planet, Earth. It is comparatively larger in relation to the Earth than any other moon or sun in comparison to its planet. Recently, photographic evidence has come out showing structures on the moon, which have not been explained by anyone nor are there any plans for humans to investigate the moon in a meaningful way (Recomparison). Another easy similarity is that humankind can not currently sustain life on either the sun or the moon. As it was mentioned before, gravity can be considered both a similarity and a difference when writing a compare and contrast essay on the sun and moon. But now that gravity has been described as a difference, it can now be looked at as a similarity. Both the sun and the moon have their own personal gravity and they affect the gravitational pull of everything and everyone on Earth. The gravity is not the same on each of these three things, because of the vast difference between their masses, but the gravitational pulls on the sun and the moon, balance each other out here on Earth. Since the moon is much smaller than Earth, this means that the moons gravity is less than Earths. The gravity on the moon is actually about one-sixth of the gravity on Earth, while the sun has an immense mass, it also has an immense amount of gravity, and with the Earth caught in the middle of the two, the pull more-or-less evens out. In conclusion, there are many things that humanity has learned, and still has yet to learn about outer space, but without what we already know, there are many things that society would not have or be able to do today. Because of what scientists have learned about Earthââ¬â¢s solar system, the world has seen phenomenal breakthroughs in science and technology. For instance, anything that runs off of solar energy or most anything eco-friendly would not be around, because society would not have the knowledge about what these things would do for humanity or what would happen to the world without them.

Welfare Reform
Any attempt by the government to transform the social welfare policy of a nation is referred to as welfare reform. There are myriads of reasons why a government may desire to undertake a social welfare reform program. For instance, there are several poor households who continually depend on the assistance from the government.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Welfare Reform ââ¬â Social Welfare Change specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, a well planned social welfare program has a higher potential of reducing overdependence on government. Hence, social welfare reform improves the self-sufficiency level of citizens who are relatively low income earners (Hacker, 2004). Some critics argue that the social welfare programs that were formed during the Great Depression era did not meet the expected goals and objectives of welfare assistance. It is imperative to mention that most of those social welfare re forms were formed hurriedly without proper structures and policy frameworks. In addition, the original social welfare reform programs were not as dynamic as expected. In spite of the fact times were changing and ushering new challenges, the old programs were not flexible enough to be compatible with the emerging needs. This paper explores the social welfare reforms in the United States since the era of the Great Depression. The Welfare Reform Act that was passed sometimes in 1996 aimed at creating an end to social welfare programs in the United States. Proponents of act argued that the social welfare structure had existed in the country for extremely long time and as such, such programs were no longer necessary (Besharov Germanis, 2000). Even though the old welfare structure was to be done away with, a similar welfare system was to be enacted. Hence, the much needed change was to be facilitated by the Welfare Reform Act. The Welfare-to-Work proposal was one of the proposed changes under the new Act. In addition, individuals who used to benefit from the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) package were then expected to work twenty hours within a period of seven days. Moreover, in order to meet this requirement, twelve authorized activities were listed down by the same reform statute. It is believed that this reform initiative assisted poor families greatly because they ended up being self-reliant and not fully depending on government handouts.Advertising Looking for research paper on political sciences? Most Americans were eventually capable of sustaining themselves compared to the initially created social welfare programs during the era of Great Depression. Although the social welfare reform discussed above was a watershed in the social wellbei ng of poor Americans, other alternatives were equally introduced in order to boost the viability of the on-going initiatives. For example, the Congress passed the 2003 welfare reform agenda. As a matter of fact, the welfare reform act that was adopted in 1996 was the main building block of the 2003 reforms. The key goal of the 2003 reforms was to boost the aspect of financial assistance to individuals and households that were still relying on full government support. The new reform agenda also aimed at strengthening individual families and protecting minors from social hardships. This was an additional clause that would ensure equitable or general state of fairness among the American public. In order to acquire the much needed independent status, both the state and local governments aided these disadvantaged groups in attaining the stated goals. Unfortunately, the Welfare-to-Work program came to an end in 2004 in spite of the fact that the program positively transformed millions of lives when it was active. The worst impact of this untimely end was the reversal of all the gains that had been achieved for relatively lengthy time. Since the inception of the first ever welfare group some sixty years ago, several positive changes have been realized among the poor American citizens. On the same note, household needs have continually transformed both in terms of diversity and variety. In order to cater for the changes that have take place among different families, the political class has regularly made reforms on the available social welfare programs. They have managed to determine both failure and success stories and acted accordingly in improving them. One of the major political undertakings by politicians has been the reauthorization of welfare legislations that are already in place. This explains why the reauthorization of the TANF initiative took place in 2005. As an impact, this welfare program has been instrumental in reshaping lives among millions of America ns who were initially living under difficult economic circumstances (Schà ¤fer, 2007). Other social welfare programs such as Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid, and Food Stamps have been indeed helpful to several Americans with low income brackets.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Welfare Reform ââ¬â Social Welfare Change specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, certain requirements must be met in order to be eligible for any of these social welfare initiatives.à In terms of ramifications, there are about four impacts of social welfare policy that have been instrumental before the onset of the 1980s. To begin with, the underlying premise of social help advanced by the welfare programs has been questioned and debated on various platforms. Women are now being stigmatized for not being part and parcel of the workforce even though the social welfare programs were initiated to assist poor mothers in bringing up their children (Schà ¤fer, 2007). Secondly, although social security system has not been interfered with at all in the US, assistance programs suffered several blows since most of them were either reformed or done away with completely. Thirdly, the individual social policies of states have been put through experiments by the federal waivers. Some of the examples include welfare-to-work programs and health insurance (Blank, 2007).à In summary, it can be concluded that the inception of social welfare programs can be dated back to the Great Depression era when American citizens faced hard economic times. Since then, several reform packages have been undertaken in these social welfare initiatives in order to boost their validity and suitability with the changing times. They were formed to cater for the social well being of communities that had been hard hit by the tough economic conditions. Therefore, long term planning was not put into consideration at all. In any cas e, most of the social welfare programs formed during the Great Depression era failed to remain vibrant and self-supportive for a long time. They still demanded government support several decades after they had been formed. Nonetheless, it is crucial to mention that even the contemporary social welfare programs can hardly suffice the needs of all low income earners in the United States and therefore, regular reforms are necessary in order to restructure their operations to be in tandem with the emerging needs of communities. Review of The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence
Review of 'The Rainbow' by D.H. Lawrence The Rainbow, published first in 1915, is the complete and exquisitely organized form ofà D.H. Lawrences views about familial relationships. The novel relates the story of three generations of an English family- the Brangwens. As the mainà characters move in and out of the storys framework, readers are brought face-to-face before an intriguing theory of passion and power among the familiar social roles of husbands, wives, children, and parents. That Lawrence meant The Rainbow to be a novel about relationships is manifest in the title of the first chapter: How Tom Brangwen Married a Polish Lady. A careful reading will make it easy to perceive Lawrences perception of power-over-passion in a marital relation. Paradoxically, it is the passion that comes first- the passion for power that is inherent in human animals. How Relationships Play Out Of young Tom Brangwen we read, He had not the power to controvert even the most stupid argument so that he would admit things that he did not in the least believe. And thus Tom Brangwens quest for power seems to end in love for Lydia, a Polish widow with a little daughter, Anna. From Lydias pregnancy to childbirth and onwards, Lawrence immerses the readers consciousness in the subtleties of relationship politics. The story then singles Anna out to elaborate upon the theme of marriage and dominance. Annas love for, and subsequent marriage with, William Brangwen ties in with the continued dominance of the patriarchal system in English society of the time. It is in this generations marital relationship that Lawrence creates a flood of nonconformist questioning of tradition. Anna openly expresses her doubts about the validity of religious traditions of creations. We read her defiant words, It is impudence to say that Woman was made out of Mans body, when every man is born of a woman. Banning and Controversyà Given the zeitgeist of the time, it is no wonder that all copies of The Rainbow were seized and burnt. The novel was not published in Britain for 11 years. More ulterior motives for this reaction against the book, perhaps, include the fear of sharpness of Lawrences openness in divulging mans inner weaknesses and the reluctance to accept the helpless dependence that is essentially materialistic in nature.As the story enters the third generation, the author focuses on the most grasping character of the book, namely, Ursula Brangwen. The first instance of Ursulas negation of biblical teachings is her natural reaction against her younger sister, Theresa.Theresaà hits Ursulas other cheek- turned to her in response to the first blow. Unlike the devoted-Christian action, Ursula reacts like a normal child by shaking the wee offender in a subsequent quarrel. Ursula develops into a highly individualistic character giving her creator (Lawrence) a free hand to explore a taboo subject: homosexu ality. The gravity of Ursulas passion for her teacher Miss Winifred Inger and the description of their physical contact is aggravated by Miss Ingers negation of the falsehood of religion. The Failed Relationship Ursulas love for the Polish young man Anton Skrebensky is D.H. Lawrences inversion of the command of dominance between patriarchal and matriarchal values. Ursula falls for a man from her maternal line of descent (Lydia was Polish). Lawrence renders the relationship a failure. Love-and-Power becomes Love-or-Power in Ursulas case.The individualistic spirit of the new age, of which Ursula Brangwen is the prime representative, keeps our young heroine from following the long-established tradition of marital slavery and dependence. Ursula becomes a teacher at a school and, despite her weaknesses, persists in living on her own instead of giving up her studies and job for her love. The Meaning of The Rainbow Like all his novels, The Rainbow testifies for D.H. Lawrences prodigy of keeping the ideal proportion between the constructive and expressive quality of the novel. Of course, we appreciate Lawrence for the wonderful insight and the quality of putting into words what otherwise could only be felt deep in ourselves. In The Rainbow, Lawrence does not rely heavily on symbolism for the novels meaningfulness. The story stands on its own. Still, the title of the novel symbolizes the whole scene of the story. The last passage of the novel is the crux of Lawrences symbolic quality of the narrative. Sitting alone and watching a rainbow in the sky, we are told about Ursula Brangwen: she saw in the rainbow the earths new architecture, the old, brittle corruption of houses and factories swept away, the world built up in a living fabric of Truth, fitting to the over-arching heaven.We know that a rainbow in mythology, especially in theà biblical tradition, is a symbol of peace. It showed Noah that the biblical flood was finally over. So, too, the flood of power and passion is over in Ursulas life. Its the flood that had prevailed for generations.ââ¬â¹

In what way can gender be understood to inform the consumption of film Essay
In what way can gender be understood to inform the consumption of film - Essay Example The consumption of film then places a sense of boundaries among women which relate to specific films. The result is a different understanding of gender identity and the way in which one should relate to society. The concept of gender identity and the relationship which this created in film was the basis of the female experience and consumption within the cinema. Perspectives of Cinema The first association with cinema is based on the spectator and the identity which is created from different perceptions. In a current study (Broadcasting Standards Commission, 1998), it was noted that the difference in perception changed according to gender. Women and men, for instance, viewed the ideal of violence differently. Women were known to have a stronger relationship to the aesthetics of the film as well as the impact of violence. This was furthered with a direct relationship which was created to the film and the violence, specifically as women created a relationship to the victimization that often occurred within movies and the sports creations. Men; however, had a different psychological response and didnââ¬â¢t associate the actions of the movie with reality or the actions which they took in various situations (Broadcasting Standards Commission, 1998). ... The cinema was the product which was designed to create a sense of identity. The women became spectators by also consuming the identities which were on television and the representation which this had. The overall ideology was based on the consumption of women as an object in which they were meant to represent an identity or component of life. This objectification was followed by the production and reproduction of familiar forms of identity as well as how this could define the women in society. Spectators then not only became associated with the relationship and emotional responses, but also associated with the consumer ideal and the understanding of what female identity should be inclusive of (Stacey, 1995). The relationship to the spectator with gender identity which one could associate with then became the main point of consumption and objectification of females. However, this specific relationship began after the wartime and with the movement into contemporary film. In the films of the 1930s, there was a specific identity which was based on the woman being the equal to man. Often, there were women who would play the same roles as men and which wouldnââ¬â¢t have different clothing or other approaches to identification. After the 1940s and 1950s, the gender identity began to split, specifically with Film Noir and other experimental approaches. This allowed the identity and the object of gender to split into identifying individuals according to the sociological realities which were in society, allowing for questions to occur with objectification and identity. However, spectators which were looking at this also began to see over ââ¬â generalized accounts of gender and mimicking this with the

Jackieââ¬â¢s remarks about Mary would make her credibility questionable. She makes personal comments aimed at Mary and even accuses her of having an affair with Paul. That demonstrates that she has hard feelings against Mary and could possibly do anything to get back at her. On his part, Peter has drug issues. He has failed two drug tests and that would jeopardize his credibility. The use of drugs would easily affect Peterââ¬â¢s performance and he is likely to be careless while under the influence of the drugs. That would be a major concern to the employer as it may lead to a bigger problem for the company. Jackieââ¬â¢s sex change should not form part of the reasons to question her credibility. That is because it was a personal choice and is in no way related to her work. Using it would amount to discrimination. Her complaint against Mary to the companyââ¬â¢s compliance department should also not influence her treatment as it would also amount to discrimination. On the other hand, missing work for three months without notice would constitute a possible reason for

Sport and Society in Ancient Greece Essay Example for Free
Sport and Society in Ancient Greece Essay Ancient Greece is one of the most ancient civilizations in history and some historians say it is one of the greatest. They have survived many invasions and attacks from barbarians and Persians as well. The Greeks those times were divided into city states and they donââ¬â¢t have any form of alliance with each other. They donââ¬â¢t help each other on wars they except for times that they donââ¬â¢t have a choice. The Greek society is basically unique. Greece had never been united under one sole ruler. And even the city states are fought among each other on whom or which city-state should rule Greece. These qualities of the Greece made the Greek history interesting. Mark Goldenââ¬â¢s book, Sport and Society in Ancient Greece, had elaborated the key points of the Greek society subjected on common theme. The book uses the Greek sport and games to give very good description of the Greek society. It expressively explained the sport as very important part of the society of Greece. In addition to this, he related the Greek sport to religion, social status, gender, age and other things that constitute to study of its society. Golden uses the sports arena to surface the differences among individuals and groups of the Greek society. The fact that it is theme-oriented made the book readers friendly. Most history professor uses this book as a very good guide to teach history. The themes use in the Goldenââ¬â¢s book made it reader friendly. Identifying the themes of the book would be relatively easy. One of the themes he used is the Greek sport. In fact, it unites all ideas in the book. He used the Greek sport as a standpoint of the differences of the Greeks. He explained it using various events in the competitions and its competitors. He explained why most explained that in every event there is a kind of group that can participate. He also expressly give emphasize the difference of participants in the athletic events to the equestrian events. In virtue of this, he elaborated the tension between to the two types of contest. He explained that he sees the difference on the participants of the said events reflect on how the Greek society was comprised. Another theme he used in his book was the stories of Iliad and Odyssey. He uses explain the start of the games and the religious beliefs of the Greek society. The stories of Iliad and Odyssey was widely use in their religious activities. The fact that most of the games was done in tribute to the Gods of Greece. They do this by reliving the great stories of both Homerââ¬â¢s epic novel. They believe that Homerââ¬â¢s epic novel were very accurate about the Gods activities. They had lived with this belief with so many years. The next theme which Mark Golden used in the book was the historical background of Greece. He stated several historical events in Greece that influences the Greek culture and the games. He had explained briefly how some games had started and the changes that the Greeks had implemented to the games. He had emphasized the importance of these historical events to the Greek society. The last theme that I will list here is the relation of the social status to events a Greek can participate. He uses this theme through out the book. He basically discusses the social hierarchy the Greek have in their society as times came by. The book clearly differentiated the differences on how a group of Greeks or an individual can participate in the sport or the games. Golden stated that in the equestrian events slaves can only win as jockeys and other rules they applied in this event. The social discrimination in the Greek society was highlighted in the book. The themes he uses simply put the book in position that it is easy to read, can be use as teaching material because of its reliability, and its distinct use of other literatures of other historians. With this book, I could relive the moment the games had begun and gone on until today. I lived in Athens during the time Olympics had been established. It was a glorious moment for the Greeks. Everyone believed that these games can unite the whole of Greece where it could fight and function as one whole country. The start of the game signaled a turn in the history of the Greeks. The feeling of this glorious moment is very pleasing to me and to other Greeks as well. Imagine that a Greek wonââ¬â¢t face another Greek in the battlefield again. I would join the games to prove the dominance of Athens over other city states. Joining the games as an Athenian is a privilege and a great honor for me. And befriending other Greek is as not bad as it looks in the past. Being at war with other Greek is pain that a soldier must overcome. Being a soldier, killing other Greeks is the most painful thing to do. It is as if it was killing your own brother. Nowadays that pain is nothing but a pigment of the past. Iââ¬â¢m glad that my sons would not feel that pain that anymore. They will not go up against other Greeks except at the games. And it is for the gods after all. They had blessed us of something great. I thank our Gods that they found a way to stop the quarreling between city states of great Greece. After reading the book, Iââ¬â¢ve come to think that the Greek games and sports are done to unify Greece and for entertainment. The world had mimic the Greek games and created Olympics. It symbolizes the unity of the nations participating in the Olympic Games. The fact that culture of Greek is carry out by the nations in the Olympics. It raises a sense of pride among the Greeks. Another thing is a realization that sports does come from religion. The games were held in religious festival in ancient times. The sports today are said to have a purpose of camaraderie, enjoyment, and battle of skills. It is shocking to know that it came from religion. The showing of facts in the book of Mark Golden had convinced me that sports started as tribute to the Gods. And that the relation of the religion and sports is undeniable. He presented reliable evidences that strengthened a claim made by a priest. The idea of classifying the participants that participate in an event was a shocking revelation. I thought at first that the classification of participants was done only to make the games fair. And that is invented after the world wars. It is shocking to know that these classifications were really done due to social status in ancient Greece. The structure of the games from those times to these days is very different. But to know that they have the same purpose is quite a relief. The most important idea that occurred to after reading Mark Goldenââ¬â¢s book is that literature has something to do with sports. If you look at sports and literature at plain logic, they are very different because literature uses mental capabilities while the sports and games use physical abilities. The connection of literature and sports was established clearly in Mark Goldenââ¬â¢s book. He clearly stated the relation of the two. The realization of the relation between the two is quite interesting and mind bugling. Mark Goldenââ¬â¢s book clearly is one of a kind. Historians who read his book were very enthusiastic to discuss Greek history to his class. The reliability of the book make more convincing to historians or even to non-historians. The book is really a must read to people to who likes Greek history. Works Cited Golden, Mark. Sport and Society in Ancient Greece. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1998

Russia :: essays research papers
As I picked up Vodka, Tears, and Leninââ¬â¢s Angel, by Jennifer Gould, I thought that I was about to read a novel that would be boring with nothing but facts and statistics. As I began to read it, the novel became much more interesting. Jennifer Gould, a journalist, decided to go to Russia. She was there to research Russia and its culture. I would have never believed some of the situations and conversations she had with so many people. The topics that made me change my mind about Russia in general were the Internat, the cars and drivers, the homeless, and sexpionage. à à à à à While reading about the Internat, I started to get disgusted. One of the reasons for this is that Russia sent healthy children to orphanages with ill kids. They were not like orphanages hear in the United States, with reasonable housing conditions, education and a chance to live with a family to provide them the better things in life. Instead, as a punishment they would be beaten, or sent to a psychiatric facility and drugged or tied to their beds for months. The law will not allow foreigners adopt healthy children. In place of the healthy kids, they would find a Western doctor that would diagnose the sick children as healthy. I believe that is not far to the children or the family who is adopting the child. Also, in the summer the orphanages close down and the majority of the kids go to camp. Once the camps are filled the extra kids get sent to psychiatric facilities. A man named Vitaly Llynin told Jennifer, ââ¬Å"Some children are sent to the orphanages because they are too hot-te mpered and get into too many fights.â⬠The children say that they do not understand why they go to these hospitals. An administrator believes that the children deny the fact that they are there because they are ashamed. None of the children receive counseling. Instead they are given antidepressants and tranquilizers. I personally can not believe that any person would think that this kind of action is okay. à à à à à Another subject that I found a little disturbing was how the people drive and who are the drivers. To me, Moscow sounds like its road are worse then Pennsylvania. There are no traffic laws. People can make illegal anywhere they want. Streets turn from one way to two way frequently. They have many potholes.

Ishikawa
A Forefather of TQM Principles: Kaoru Ishikawa Total Quality Management (TQM) principles are based off of the philosophies of numerous individuals ââ¬â W. Edward Deming, Joseph Juran and Philip Crosby, to name a few. One such individual is Kaoru Ishikawa. Touted as the ââ¬Å"Father of Quality Circles and as a founder of the Japanese quality movementâ⬠(Beckford, 2002), his philosophy on quality control is critical to understand TQM in general. Knowing the fundamentals/ building blocks of TQM can be used to shape the future direction and improvement of TQM.Ishikawa hoped his philosophy would improve quality in work, which in turn would lead to improvement in quality of life (Beckford, 2002). Ishikawa was born July 13, 1915. He graduated from the University of Tokyo where he received an engineering degree in Applied Chemistry. Later he would become a professor of the same University. After graduating, he joined the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) in 1949. Th is could be seen as the first steps he took towards developing his quality control philosophy and following in the footsteps of his father in Management Science (Hutchins, 1989. The core ideas of Ishikawaââ¬â¢s philosophy on quality control ââ¬â companywide quality control (CWQC) ââ¬â can be divided into three main concepts (Beckford, 2002). The first is that quality is based off of a holistic approach. The second core idea of Ishikawaââ¬â¢s philosophy is that there is active participation in the quality program amongst the employees. The third core idea is that there is direct, simple communication between management and workers. A holistic approach means that not only is the end product/service a quality product/service but also extends to the process that developed it.The end is just as important as the means. The company has a program in place that strives for quality management, quality workers and quality processes within all levels of the company. I think this c oncept of quality at all levels within a company is especially important in todayââ¬â¢s society where it is not enough to know a company provides a quality product but is socially and environmentally conscious. For example, if a company has a quality process in place when choosing and working with certain suppliers ââ¬â they lessen the chance of being surprised that the supplier uses child labor or contaminates the environment.Ishikawaââ¬â¢s second core idea of active participation among employees emphasizes the importance the workers. Itââ¬â¢s not enough to have a quality program in place; the employees (including leadership) have to be involved and to have a voice within the company. This is based off of the idea that employees not only can recognize the problems in a process but also the solutions (Beckford, 2002). One of the main complaints that employees have is that management is not in touch with what they actually do so they donââ¬â¢t listen when there is a p roblem or a solution. Ishikawaââ¬â¢s second core idea looks to avoid this phenomenon.The last core idea of direct, open communication between workers and management rounds out Ishikawaââ¬â¢s philosophy on quality control. It stresses the importance of group communication to be understandable and in ââ¬Å"layman termsâ⬠so it can be pertinent for all levels of the company. Ishikawaââ¬â¢s contributions to quality management were numerous. He wrote 600+ articles and 31 books (Smith, 2011). He had 2 English translated books ââ¬â ââ¬Å"Introduction to Quality Controlâ⬠and ââ¬Å"What is Total Quality Control? The Japanese Wayâ⬠. He was also behind the concept of quality circles and the Fishbone Diagram.Quality circles can be seen as a method of creating active participation within a company. It shows how Ishikawa believed that ââ¬Å"all workers must be involved in quality improvement through teams to enhance the capability of individual workers and improve work processesâ⬠(Watson, 2004). Quality circles are groups of workers within a company that is formed to review, analyze and make recommendations for issues and problems. The Fishbone diagram was developed in 1943 as a problem-solving tool and was used to identify possible root causes to problems in a simple and straightforward presentation.It is one of the seven tools of quality control that is recognized worldwide (Smith, 2011). While all the tools of quality control is important, this diagram can be used in numerous disciplines ranging from not only quality management, but science, education, etc. The other tools of quality control is Pareto Charts, Stratification, Check sheets, Histograms, Scatter graphs and Control charts (Beckford, 2002) Throughout his career, Ishikawa was the recipient of numerous awards. Per Beckford, he received the Deming, Nihon Keizai Press and Industrial Standardization prizes and the Grant Award from the American Society for Quality Control.Ishik awaââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢s work also prompted an award to be given out in his honor. In 1993, ASQ established the Ishikawa Medal where it is awarded ââ¬Å"to an individual or a team whose work has had a major positive impact on the human aspects of qualityâ⬠(ASQ, 2012) Ishikawa passed away April 16, 1989. Although he is no longer with us, his work and his philosophy is still vibrant and in use today. Understanding the core concepts behind Ishikawaââ¬â¢s CWCQ sheds light on TQM principles. His philosophies help shape how companies today develop their quality control programs.Maybe from the lessons and philosophy of Ishikawa, a future TQM guru could emerge, giving the world another individual that further advances quality in work and ultimately in life. Masculine and Feminine Norms and Gender Identity Essay
Throughout todayââ¬â¢s society, almost every aspect of someoneââ¬â¢s day is based whether or not he or she fits into the ââ¬Å"normâ⬠that has been created. Specifically, masculine and feminine norms have a great impact that force people to question ââ¬Å"am I a true man or woman?â⬠After doing substantial research on the basis of masculine or feminine norms, it is clear that society focuses on the males being the dominant figures. If males are not fulfilling the masculine role, and females arenââ¬â¢t playing their role, then their gender identity becomes foggy, according to their personal judgment, as well as societyââ¬â¢s. Norms in society do not just come about randomly in oneââ¬â¢s life, they start once a child is born. To emphasize, directly from infancy, childrenâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In addition, a study was done on children ages 4, 6, and 8 to test flexibility about gender and parental influences. Assessments were focused around gender constancy, judgments about gender norms; results showed that younger children were more rigid than older children, showing parental influence is present (Cyphers, Lisa)(Conry-Murray, Clare). Society also depicts the masculinity is defined by strength, and that women cant handle as much. A study conducted focused on the aspect of pain tolerance in comparison to men and women conforming to the norms, believing that men are stronger; two studies were performed. The first study tested pain tolerance strictly based on using a hypothetical pain stimulus; scientists wanted to prove that people know and encourage norms on pain tolerance. The second study was done to observe knowledge about pain, and tolerance behavior. It required actual stimulus to be taken place on the participants; they experienced electrical impulses at different intensities. Results showed that high identifying men were able to handle more pain than high identifying femalesââ¬â¢ some men endured the pain because they felt obligated (Pool, G.). Strength and pain tolerance are not only a factor with identifying gender, but emotional expression between genders is a big debate amongst society as well.
